Falling into Yin with Michelle Warren

With the sun higher in the sky and stretching longer into each day, spring is showing signs of emergence (even if winter holds on a bit longer). The dormant months of winter leave us, ready to come into the light of renewal and growth. Spring is the home of the wood element, that has been nourished by the water element of winter.

Find a balanced way to emerge and shed some unwanted layers during this Yin Yoga Workshop. As we trace the lines of the liver and gallbladder, we will encourage free flowing energy within each pose. Longer, passive and supported poses allow us to embrace the present moment as we soften into our edges and begin to shed some of what may no longer be serving us. This practice of softening into the connective tissue and accessing points along these meridians will help to support the body's natural digestive and detoxification functions.

Yoga Sadhana: Being in Yoga with Marya Bradley

“The yogin’s body is an oblation, poured into the fire of True Being.” - Shiva Sutra of Vasugupta, 2.8

What do we seek in our practice of yoga? What do we actually experience as yoga in our practice? How can we engage in our practice so that we can be present to our experience and discover the questions and uses of yogic yoga practices that open to and grow out of the transformative and healing insight that is the essence of yoga?

In the workshop, Marya will guide an experiential exploration of these questions. Drawing on practices and techniques discovered and passed down in the Hatha yoga / Kundalini traditions, we will explore ways of cultivating and deepening our awareness and concentration so we can feel - experientially approach or know, even - what opens our being towards yoga.

Our exploration will include the practice of asana (yoga postures), breathing, cultivating / deepening subtle awareness and concentration.

All are welcome, but some experience of yoga is highly recommended!

New Moon Workshop with Sarina Ryals

The New Moon occurs every 29.5 days and signals the beginning and end of the lunar cycle. It is marked by a period of darkness in our sky, with only the light of the stars shining down on us. New Moons are all about new beginnings, a symbolic time for intention setting and planting seeds to create the kind of life you envision for yourself.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and instills the fire within us. Paired with the spring equinox her season is a time to take action, find your purpose, and overcome anything that comes in your way. Her season offers the opportunity to pay attention to what our soul truly needs. This is a time to put ourselves first and align with our higher purpose. Aries brings courage, determination, and passion. We are given the opportunity to use this energy, to direct towards creating something new. Take this opportunity to be the person you’ve always wanted to be.

Class will consist of meditation + physical practice + questions to reflect on + dream journaling.

Please bring a journal, something to write with, and any crystals or items you’d like to bring with you on this journey.

Pisces is a season of pure bliss. Pisces, a water sign, is just like the ocean – her energy is encompassing, boundless, and free flowing. Pisces season is a time for dreaming, it is a season when doing nothing is the most productive thing we could do. In the space of nothingness, inspiration is born. What can you open yourself up to receiving this season? The key to receiving is letting go. Let go of your expectations, let go of the need to be right and let go of your desire for a particular outcome. Detach and go with the flow of Pisces.

Extended Yin Yoga practice with Morgan Engels

Yin Yoga is a practice that can have an appearance of looking very slow, passive and cool on the outside…while the internal experience can be very different. As we ask our bodies to explore a posture for anywhere between 2-5 minutes, a myriad of sensations can come to the surface or drift away. A major part of the Yin practice is committing to taking that time to be with what you are feeling, to explore the edges or edginess of the shape you’re in, and to repeatedly soften.

These extended sessions will provide you plenty of time to go into a pose as far as your curiosity can take you.

Join Morgan for a practice exploring a meditation on the kidney meridian through its physical and emotional qualities. This practice will work specifically with postures for the kidney channel, exploring the aspects of releasing, strengthening and simply facing what arises in the moment.

This Yin Yoga workshop will provide a safe space to turn inward, slow down and to soften more deeply. Longer, passive held Yin postures aim to relax our muscles and work on the connective tissues which in turn stimulate the subtle energy systems within the body. The practice of softening and surrendering during this time allows for a deeper awareness in the present moment.

In looking at alternatives to sage burning as a purifier, I came across Florida water. It can cleanse the air and energy, and give you a clean slate before starting a ritual or ceremony. You can carry it with you in a spritzer for on the go purification, or use it as a scent to wear.

Florida water is a vodka based flower, fruit and herb infusion that sits for a full lunar cycle, and then is strained and used. Mostly based in fresh roses, rosemary, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves and orange peel but you can add whatever other fragrant botanicals you have.

We'll have a good time getting together near the Full Moon to make a batch of Florida Water that you can take home for your own personal use. Feel free to bring any snacks or drinks!

If we have good fortune, we meet teachers who embody their craft. If we are blessed we know one or two who impart through their passions and their actions, their skills. Graciela passes on a legacy of listening deeply to  self, other, and the connection which is the Self. Layer by layer, breath by breath Gracie embraces each student’s capacity to Restore Self. Yoga Nidra with Meg Vetting

Join Meg Vetting of The Heart Revival Friday, September 21st for a Guided Yoga Nidra Meditation practice. The event begins at 7:30pm and ends at 9:00pm. All levels are welcome as this practice is accessible for all students.

Yoga Nidra is an ancient form of meditation. It means yogic sleep or conscious deep sleep. Within meditation, one remains in the waking state of consciousness, and gently focuses the mind, while allowing thought patterns, emotions, sensations and images to arise and go on. In Nidra, you leave the waking state, go past the dreaming state, and go to deep sleep, yet remain awake. There is a paradox in this: going to sleep, yet still being fully awake seems impossible, yet this is exactly what happens. Relaxation happens at all levels: senses, body, breath, conscious and unconscious mind. The relaxation that comes with alpha and theta levels of the brain can be extremely useful for mental, emotional and physical health.

Students can anticipate some simple and restorative movement before beginning the meditation practice; dress comfortably.
